Commandant's Corner December saw 69 “Big Kids” and 10 young ones at our Annual Christmas Dinner, with a good time had by all. Santa (the Detachment Judge Advocate), came in with a sea bag full of toys for the youngsters. Everyone left with their stomachs full. I received one complaint from a member who found that when he got to the head of the mess, they had run out of mashed potatoes. Our quarterly meeting at the State level gave info about the annual convention scheduled in KC. In 2008, there will be no rifle shoot, you will have to bring your own coffee maker and you will be required to pay for you own breakfast. This should make for a fun convention. Our year ended on a sad note with the loss of one of our closest members, Jerry Schultz. I and many others were proud to have been able to have Jerry as a friend and he will be greatly missed. With the new year upon us, we are already looking at a busy schedule with
three 4 day safety breaks, two pistol shoots, our annual summer picnic, Springfield
Cardinal baseball games, Honor Guards and Memorial Team duties. So
everyone grab 48 hr liberty when they can!! In January, we will need an officer
nomination committee and begin preparations for our 10th year Anniversary in To all our members, a Job Well Done and a Great Job in all your hard work and support of our Detachment over the past 12 months. Semper Fi

Mt. Vernon Visitation Team Report: AND THE BEAT GOES ON!!!!!
With hardly enough time to recover from the Marine Corps birthday party on November 17th, we needed to move our Christmas celebration up to December 8th, due to the Veteran's Homes prior scheduling. The weather was totally not in our favor and both of our piano players became unavailable( Jeanie Raney had prior commitments and Marie Thomson had to take Bill to the hospital), we were forced to use old Marine logic “Improvise”!
Once again a great coordinated effort of both the League and the Auxiliary brought this event to a success for all our Veteran's. It was great to see a large turnout from so many of our members- Bill & Mary Lou Webb, Ray & Mickey Dees, Ray & Vicki Glynn, Marty Bruton, Wilma Snow, Mary Maloney, Priscilla Burnett, Connie Hammons, and Eddie Flores and his lovely daughter -all brought the spirit of the season and applied themselves to make this a success. In attendance were eight of our Veteran's who readily took part in sharing about their Christmas memories and partaking in freshly baked cookies prepared by Connie, Priscilla and Marty and drinks brought by Wilma.
We sang at least a dozen Christmas carols from programs and without any musical accompaniment, we were all in good voice. Charles Haynes requested we sin “Jingle Bell Rock”. With no words in hand we did do pretty good. At the end of the party Christmas gift baskets were given to each Veteran and for the ones not attending, the baskets were taken to their rooms. The gift baskets were provided by the League, the Auxiliary, and a grant from WalMart. Included in the baskets were: hats, blankets, exercise balls, magazines, calendars, sugar-free chocolates, socks, and many toiletries. Everyone had a great time, especially us.
Some people never change their opinion because, after all, it has been in the family for generations.
God Bless you all,
Ray Glynn

Detachment Christmas Dinner
The Annual Christmas Dinner set for Dec 13, Golden Corral was a great success. Besides the large member and guest turnout, this year, the I & I Staff and their families, were invited to join in on the fun. Thanks to Ed Higgenbotham who was dressed as Santa and provided the kids some excitement of their own. Thanks also to SrVC Perks who helped in the planning of the party. Can't wait to taste what he has cooking for the annual summer picnic!!

Marine Corps League Auxiliary: January Newsletter Happy 2008, I do hope everyone had a great time over the holidays with family and friends. Our December Christmas party was a lot of fun. We did not get to play the Not-So-Newlywed Game. Santa came and handed out presents to all the good boys and girls. I personally enjoyed meeting up with all the wonderful wives and husbands. Our meeting will be held on January 10, 2008 at the Fleet Reserve Association building downtown. I hope to see |
everyone there. We have new business to discuss. It is the time of year we should be thinking about who we want as our officers for the new year. Elections are scheduled to be held at our March 13, 2008 Meeting.
