229th Birthday

On Saturday night, 20 November 2004, the Detachment witnessed a very memorable Marine Corps Ball at the Oasis Inn and Convention Center in Springfield. The Marines, Sailors, and Key Volunteers of the I&I Staff and Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment worked extremely hard to put together a special "Homecoming Ball" for the Weapons Company warriors on their return from Operation Iraqi Freedom II. The large group of Marines and families were treated to the professional hospitality of the Oasis staff as well as some pretty good chow and camaraderie.
But the birthday ceremony and traditional cake cutting were only the beginning, as Detachment #993 made its annual presentation to the Weapons Company NCO and Marines of the Year. For 2004, matching "Iraqi Freedom" KaBars in presentation cases were given to LCpl Nicholas Orphan and Cpl Ryan Bever by LM Paul Primas (Left photo) and an NCO Sword was presented to Sergeant Christopher Tate by Commandant Nolan Moody (Right photo). Great job Marines, and Welcome Home!
